Austin Retains in Dramatic Draw
CALVERT, TX - “OUTLAW” J. AUSTIN had his shoulders down for a three-count in his Lions Pride Sports Championship match against ZANE VALERO. Fortunately for the champ, Valero’s shoulders were down as well.
The title match at our Surrounded event at historic Boyd Gymnasium was hard-hitting and high octane. The intensity matched the stakes, as not only was the biggest prize in The Pride on the line, if Valero lost, he could no longer challenge Austin for the title.
At the conclusion of the contest, a huge kick by Valero dropped Austin. The challenger had taken so much damage, though, that he fell onto Austin with his two shoulders hitting the mat as well. The referee made his count and called for the bell, ruling the match as a draw, meaning “Outlaw” is still the champion. However, because Zane didn’t lose the match, he is still eligible to compete for Austin’s title.
In other action from our first event in Calvert:
MATHAYUS survived a remarkable amount of power offense from THE MOUNTAIN, ultimately hitting his trademark spear on the challenger and once again retaining the Lions Den Championship.
A pre-match exchange of words between the returning MIKE DELL and SHIMBASHI escalated into a brawl involving Shimbashi’s girlfriend MJ SANTANA. Dell said he wanted a no disqualification stipulation for their main event encounter, which was granted. Knowing full well he would have to deal with interference in addition to the skill and energy of Shimbashi, Dell used his athleticism and veteran instincts to navigate his way to a win.
Santana had her own match against arch rival MIA FRIDAY, with an M.I.A. scoring the 1-2-3 for the 16-year-old sensation Friday.
CHAVY CHULO opened Surrounded with hard-fought victory over a game LUIS “SPARTAN” RAMIREZ in the latter’s debut in The Pride.
Also debuting was MAX “VOLUME” BECKETT, who like Ramirez had a strong showing. HOSTAGE HIRSCH came away with the win, but after their match and a handshake between the two, Hirsch and Beckett were attacked by The Bad Boys of Wrestling. TRENT MERCER hit the ring to save his Onslaught tag partner Hirsch and Beckett, and the previously announced match between Mercer and KOOL DADDI DENZELL was started. Outside interference from Denzell’s Bad Boys brethren backfired, and Mercer also earned a win.
