Lions Den Champion Trent Mercer wanted to make his first defense of his title memorable, so he issued an open challenge to any three eligible wrestlers at Battle in Bryan 5. Chavy Chulo aimed to become the first two-time holder of that belt, while Jak Calloway and TKO Joe each aimed for their first gold.

Through rivalry clashes, individual efforts, and alliances formed and dissolved, one wrestler would outlast the others and earn the title shot of their choosing later that same night.

The heated rivalry between Chavy Chulo and Security Guy had potential to boil over within the contest, while Cannonball Carmichael, Jak Calloway and Zae Carter were set to make their debuts. The winner would receive a check from Big Daddy's Tattoo Studio in College Station.
